The IEC 60044-6 standard (corresponding to the national standard GB16847-1977) states that CT testing can be performed at a lower frequency than the rated frequency to avoid unacceptable voltages on the windings and secondary terminals.
The principle circuit of CT volt-ampere characteristic measurement is as follows: CT primary side open circuit, voltage is applied from the secondary side, and the relationship between applied voltage V and input current I is measured. This curve approximates the relationship between the excitation potential E of the CT and the excitation current I.
